A knotted tie should not be too short or too long. A tie is the perfect length when its tip touches the top of a man’s belt.

Contrast Is Everything:

If there is a high level of contrast between your hair color and your complexion, you can wear a jacket, shirt and tie combination that is high contrast too.  If there is little contrast between your hair color and complexion, choose a low contrast or monotone combination.

To Knot Or Not To Knot:

Of course, to knot — but how big should a knot be? As a general rule, a knot should never be so large that it spreads the collar open. Likewise, a knot should never be so small that it becomes lost in the collar.

Mirror, Mirror:

When in doubt about a particular combination, take a look in the mirror. If you find yourself hesitating for even a moment, something about your suit, shirt and tie combination isn’t right.
